What is Ant Bridge?

It started with a question: are there enough ants in the world to build a bridge to the moon with their bodies? From it, a dream was born. A dream of a new space age, an insect space age. In Ant Bridge, you take the lead in building that new age. Take control of your colony, and build a bridge to the stars - er - the moon!

The Creators

Three friends, Aryav, Alex, and Jake first started asking themselves about ants’ potential as a interstellar species in June 2023. They soon included their friend, Seth, in the project. Aryav’s expertise with ants has a long history, starting with his academic works such as “Ants make up, like, 50% of all of Earth’s animal biomass” (2019) and “What if the aliens come and are, like, this is ant planet?” (2021). Alex’s background in load-bearing structures composed of biomass (originally conceived as a project with mushrooms) proved key in advancing the Ant Bridge inquiry. Seth, meanwhile, is an avid amateur lunar enthusiast. He made his first formal observations of the phases of the moon at age 20, and has since then frequently marveled at the moon’s brightness while camping. This, combined with their mutual acquaintance Jake’s philosophical grounding in the effects of space travel on a species (see Hannah Arendt’s The Human Condition), created the ideological cocktail that is Ant Bridge.

FAQs

How do I get a copy of Ant Bridge?

Ant Bridge is not yet available to consumers. The game creators are currently trying to build enough online following to launch a Kickstarter to fund the first print run of the game. You can help by joining our newsletter or following Ant Bridge on social media at the bottom of this page!

What can I do to make Ant Bridge into a reality?

If you mean the game, please follow us on social media and tell your friends about us! The more people who are excited for the game, the more likely it is to happen. If you mean an actual bridge of ants to the moon, every crumb that you drop helps further the success of ants on Earth. You are already contributing and you didn’t even know it!

How many ants ARE there in the world?

According to some estimates, there are approximately 20 quadrillion ants. This means that there are about 2.6 million ants for every human being on Earth. Scientists estimate that ants make up about 15-20% of animal biomass in the world.

When will Ant Bridge be available?

Unfortunately, we are not sure yet. We are hoping to have a first print edition available in 2024.

What is Ant Bridge’s stance on the moon landing?

We haven’t seen enough evidence to convince us either way. Maybe it was real, maybe it was fake. The truly disappointing part is the distinct lack of ants.
